Former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in South Africa, Mr. Bola Babarinde, has hailed the reconciliation between President Bola Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, describing it as a “great relief” for the party and a positive sign for Nigeria.
In a statement issued Tuesday in Lagos, Babarinde—who also serves as General Secretary of Renewed Hope Global—commended Tinubu’s declaration that he has forgiven Sanwo-Olu and resolved their rift. The announcement followed a closed-door meeting between Tinubu and members of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council over the weekend.
“This reconciliation is a beacon of hope not just for Lagos, but for Yorubaland and Nigeria as a whole,” Babarinde said. “Peace in Lagos means stability for the entire nation. President Tinubu has once again demonstrated wisdom, forgiveness, and political maturity.”
He added that the news of the rift had caused widespread concern, with critics and political opponents seizing on the situation. “Thankfully, the recent reconciliation between President Tinubu and Governor Sanwo-Olu offers great relief,” Babarinde said.
Babarinde, who described Sanwo-Olu as a longtime friend and former schoolmate, praised the governor’s humility, principles, and progressive mindset. “If there were missteps, they were certainly not deliberate or intended to hurt Asiwaju Tinubu. Some accusations may have been fabricated by political enemies,” he stated.
He further revealed that, although not formally part of the Lagos State government, he has supported Sanwo-Olu’s administration from outside the country and remains proud of his leadership. “We pray that peace and cooperation will continue between the executive and legislative arms in Lagos,” Babarinde concluded.
