Trumpeter Joshua Olusanya Sets Guinness World Record for Longest Trumpet Marathon

Nigerian trumpeter and music advocate, Joshua Olusanya—popularly known as Trumpet Influencer—has officially been confirmed by Guinness World Records as the holder of the title for the Longest Marathon Playing the Trumpet.

This historic feat follows a previously disqualified attempt in February 2024, when Olusanya’s record bid was nullified after he briefly stopped to drink water, a violation of Guinness World Records (GWR) guidelines which require uninterrupted performance except during designated rest breaks.

Determined to make history, Olusanya returned in May 2025 with a renewed effort that lasted 25 hours, 30 minutes, and 36 seconds, from May 9 to 10, at Terra Kulture in Victoria Island, Lagos. Following a thorough review, GWR confirmed the success of the attempt via an official communication.

“Dear Joshua Olusanya, we are thrilled to inform you that your application for Longest Marathon Playing the Trumpet has been successful and you are now the Guinness World Records Title Holder.
Congratulations, you are Officially Amazing!” the email read.

Olusanya shared the momentous news via his Instagram handle @officialbossboss, expressing gratitude to fans and supporters for standing by him—especially after the initial setback.

“Official! I’m honoured to announce that I’ve set the first-ever Guinness World Record for the Longest Marathon Playing the Trumpet! A dream we collectively fought for.
Thank you, Nigeria! We made history together,” he posted.

His previous attempt on February 23, 2024, lasted 24 hours and 46 minutes, narrowly missing the mark due to a minor technical violation. GWR had explained at the time that while food and drink are permitted during a record attempt, they must not disrupt the flow of performance—something Olusanya’s water break inadvertently did.

“Whilst we fully appreciate that this is not the decision you were hoping for, we trust that you will understand our position,” GWR stated in the disqualification notice, dated May 19, 2024.

Beyond personal ambition, Olusanya undertook the challenge to raise the profile of instrumental musicians, promote music education, and inspire aspiring talents to pursue their dreams with resilience and discipline.

With this achievement, Joshua Olusanya not only cements his name in the global music history books but also shines a spotlight on the creative potential of Nigerian musicians.
