Eid-el-Kabir: Jonathan Urges Nigerians to Embrace Peace, Sacrifice, and National Unity

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Nigerians to use the Eid-el-Kabir celebration as a time for deep reflection and renewed commitment to peace, unity, and national development.

In a goodwill message shared Friday on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Jonathan highlighted the values of faith, sacrifice, and compassion, which the Islamic festival commemorates. He described them as essential for national rebirth and collective progress.

“Eid-el-Kabir is a time of deep spiritual reflection, symbolising the enduring values of faith, sacrifice, obedience, and compassion,” Jonathan stated. “These values are not only central to Islam but also resonate with all who believe in the ideals of service to humanity.”

A vocal advocate for peaceful coexistence and democratic governance since leaving office in 2015, the former president emphasized that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity. He called on citizens to rise above divisions and unite in pursuit of a better future.

“In these challenging times, we must draw inspiration from the essence of Eid by embracing peace, promoting tolerance, and renewing our commitment to the unity and progress of our country,” he said.

Jonathan urged Nigerians to show kindness to one another and support efforts aimed at building a just and inclusive society. He encouraged the faithful to use the season to deepen bonds of brotherhood and compassion.

“As families and communities come together in celebration, may this sacred season bring joy to our homes and inspire hope in our hearts,” he added.

He concluded by wishing Muslims in Nigeria and around the world a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
