In response to the growing outcry regarding the deplorable conditions of police barracks, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has acknowledged the issue and announced plans to address the accommodation problems faced by its personnel. An official statement from the NPF revealed that the process to reconstruct all dilapidated barracks in Lagos and other states has commenced.
The police authorities have initiated the relocation of personnel to enable construction work to begin as soon as possible. Emphasizing a step-by-step approach to resolving these issues, the statement highlighted the recent Nigeria Police Housing Summit organized by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) as a key initiative aimed at tackling the accommodation problems nationwide.
"We are aware of the problems, and we are sensitive to the welfare of our personnel. We deserve to live fine, with dignity and high esteem," the statement read. The NPF assured the public and its officers that efforts are being made to improve the living conditions in police barracks across the country.
