M anchester City has secured the signing of 18-year-old left-back Christian McFarlane from New York City FC, marking their fourth addition in the January transfer window.
While details of the transfer and McFarlane’s personal contract remain undisclosed, it has been confirmed that New York City FC will receive a percentage of any future resale. This move makes McFarlane the first full-fledged academy graduate from an American club to join an English Premier League side.
The talented defender made 13 appearances for New York City FC this season and has also featured three times for England’s U18 national team. Holding dual citizenship for both the USA and England, McFarlane has yet to decide which country he will represent at the senior level.
Manchester City, currently fourth in the Premier League standings, has been active in the transfer market, having already signed Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt (€75 million), Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens (€40 million), and Vitor Reis from Palmeiras (€35 million).
