Olubadan of Ibadanland to Relocate to New Ultramodern Palace

T he Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, will officially move to the newly built ultramodern Olubadan Palace at Oke Aremo in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State on Wednesday.

Following his coronation on July 12, Oba Olakulehin had been residing in his private residence at the Alalubosa Government Reserved Area. The new palace was recently unveiled by the Oyo State Governor, facilitated by prominent Ibadan indigenes.

The previous palace, located at Oja’ba in the Ibadan South East Local Government Area, was last occupied by the late Olubadan Yesufu Asanike, who reigned from 1983 to 1993. Since then, successive Olubadans have ruled from their private residences.

Oba Olakulehin had chosen to defer all official functions until after a thanksgiving service, which took place on Sunday at St. Peters Cathedral in Aremo, Ibadan. Following the service, the Olubadan will now relocate to the new palace.

The move to the new palace was decided after the thanksgiving service, and Oba Olakulehin is expected to conduct official functions there as outlined in the 1957 Chieftaincy Law (as amended). This relocation also led to the postponement of the maiden meeting of the Olubadan Advisory Council, which was originally scheduled for Monday at the new palace. The rescheduled meeting is expected to ratify the date for the presentation of the ceremonial beaded crown to the former governor of the state and the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja.

High Chief Ladoja, in a recent interview, stated that he had agreed to accept the beaded crown following the intervention of well-meaning individuals.
