T he Nigerian Patriotic Front Movement (NPFM), Northern Chapter, has declared its intention to persist with the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest in Kano State. The announcement was made by the Secretary of NPFM, Comrade Anas Adamu, during a telephone interview on Sunday.
Adamu stated that the decision to continue the protest stemmed from President Bola Tinubu's failure to address the group's "minimum demands" four days into the nationwide demonstrations. He emphasized the worsening governance and economic crisis under President Tinubu's administration over the past 15 months.
“We are all aware that Nigeria is facing a major governance and economic crisis, which the government of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has, in 15 months, exacerbated,” Adamu remarked.
According to Adamu, President Tinubu's recent broadcast was inadequate, as it failed to meet the group's demands. "We are totally not satisfied with all what the President said in his address to the nation. So, we will continue with the protest because the only thing that is stopping us is the curfew," he asserted.
The group's key demands include reducing the pump price of petrol to its pre-Tinubu rates, which ranged from N160 to N200. Adamu highlighted the unaffordability of the current rates, which have soared to between N720 and N1000+, even for the middle class.
Adamu reassured that the NPFM is committed to lawful protests, explaining that the state-imposed curfew was the reason for temporarily halting their activities. "We are law-abiding citizens, so the state government imposed a curfew on the state that was why we suspended the protest," he said. "As soon as the curfew is over, we shall resume our protests."
