O n Tuesday, the National Council of State expressed its confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s administration during a meeting convened to address pressing national issues.
The meeting was attended by former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, as well as former Heads of State Gen. Yakubu Gowon (Rtd) and Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (Rtd). Many governors participated physically, while others joined virtually.
The National Council of State, which consists of the President, Vice President, former Presidents and Heads of State, the Senate President, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, state governors, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Attorney-General of the Federation, is tasked with advising the sitting President on policy decisions and other significant matters.
Following the meeting, Kwara Governor and chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, reported that the council unanimously passed a vote of confidence in President Tinubu. He highlighted that the council was pleased with the economic progress presentations made by the Ministers.
Abdulrazaq stated, “The high point of the meeting was the unanimous passage of a vote of confidence on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces. Members, especially those from the Nigerian Governors' Forum, were satisfied with the Federal Executive Council's presentations. An executive session followed between the NGF members and the President, leading to frank and productive discussions. We are optimistic about our direction.”
He added, “The NGF members, like the Council of State members, also passed a vote of confidence on the President. We wish him well and pray for divine guidance.”
