K ylian Mbappe marked his debut goal for Real Madrid with a decisive strike in a 2-0 triumph over Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.
Mbappe netted Madrid's second goal in the 68th minute, capping off a superb team effort. Jude Bellingham played a pivotal role in the buildup, delivering a precise pass to Mbappe, who expertly dispatched the ball into the top right corner of the net, leaving goalkeeper Juan Musso helpless.
Earlier in the match, Atalanta's Marten de Roon came close to breaking the deadlock with a powerful shot from inside the box that rattled the crossbar. Moments later, Ederson tested Madrid's defense with a long-range effort that narrowly missed the right post.
In the first half's added time, Real Madrid's Rodrygo had a chance to score when he received a pass inside the box, but his shot crashed against the crossbar. After the interval, Thibaut Courtois showcased his goalkeeping prowess with a remarkable save, denying Mario Pasalic's header that was heading towards the right post.
Madrid took the lead in the 59th minute when Federico Valverde converted a close-range effort from a pass by Vinicius Junior. Vinicius Junior himself nearly added to the score two minutes later with a powerful strike, but Musso made a stellar save to tip the ball over the bar.
In the 66th minute, Bellingham again threatened the Atalanta goal, only to be thwarted by Musso's exceptional save as he dived to deny Bellingham's shot aimed at the bottom left corner.
The victory not only celebrated Mbappe's first goal for Real Madrid but also secured the UEFA Super Cup for the European champions.
