Kamala Harris Defends Immigration Record and Challenges Trump at Atlanta Rally

V ice President Kamala Harris took a vigorous stance on immigration at her rally in Atlanta on Tuesday, aiming to counter former President Donald Trump’s attacks on the issue.

Addressing the crowd, Harris highlighted her past as California Attorney General, where she prosecuted transnational gangs, drug cartels, and human traffickers. She accused Trump of undermining this year’s bipartisan border security bill to further his own electoral ambitions.

“Donald Trump does not care about border security; he only cares about himself,” Harris declared. She promised to continue pushing for the bill as president, emphasizing her commitment to a stronger immigration system.

In her high-profile visit to Georgia, Harris also challenged Trump to a debate, rallying the crowd with her call: “If you’ve got something to say, say it to my face.”

The Harris campaign has previewed its response to Trump’s attacks through a new 50-second campaign video. The video criticizes Trump for blocking a bipartisan immigration bill that included stringent border security measures and highlights Harris’ record of prosecuting gang members and advocating for increased Border Patrol agents and advanced technology to combat drug smuggling.

“Kamala Harris supports increasing the number of Border Patrol agents. Donald Trump blocked a bill to increase the number of Border Patrol agents,” the video’s voiceover states. “Kamala Harris prosecuted transnational gang members and got them sentenced to prison. Trump is trying to avoid being sentenced to prison.”

The video concludes with a clear choice: “There’s two choices in this election: The one who will fix our broken immigration system and the one who is trying to stop her.”

This release follows recent Trump campaign ads that critique Harris’ handling of immigration. The ads include footage from a 2021 NBC interview where Harris struggled to explain her lack of a border visit and highlight her dancing at a public event. Both ads describe Harris as “failed. Weak. Dangerously liberal.”

Harris has been tasked by President Biden with overseeing diplomatic efforts in Central America to address the root causes of migration. While her role has been criticized, Biden administration officials assert that her focus has been on long-term solutions, while the Department of Homeland Security handles immediate border security issues.
