August 1 Protests: Politicians Fleeing Nigeria, Some Relocating to Abuja

I n response to the upcoming August 1 #EndBadGovt protests, numerous Nigerian political office holders are reportedly leaving the country with their families, fearing potential attacks. Findings from the International Airports in Abuja and Lagos reveal a significant exodus of Ministers, Senators, House of Representatives members, and other top aides of the President.

Sources indicate that destinations for these fleeing politicians include Niger, Egypt, London, and the U.S. In addition, several Northern politicians, particularly those from Kano and Kaduna, are relocating to Abuja, which is perceived as safer.

The protests, organized by a coalition of patriotic Nigerians and civil society groups, aim to address issues of bad governance. These demonstrations are set to take place across Nigeria and in various parts of the world. However, the protests have been met with condemnation from some quarters, who argue that the current government requires more time to tackle poverty and unemployment among the nation's youth.

The fear among politicians highlights the tension and uncertainty surrounding the protests. The decision of some officials to relocate or send their families abroad underscores the perceived threat posed by the nationwide demonstrations.
