O lasade Tinubu-Ojo, the daughter of President Bola Tinubu and the Iyaloja General of Lagos, has urged market women in Dosumu Market to warn their children against participating in the planned August 1 protest against economic hardship.
“Say no to protest,” declared Mrs. Tinubu-Ojo in a video where she addressed market women, emphasizing the importance of discouraging their children from joining the demonstrations.
In the video, Mrs. Tinubu-Ojo stated, “Let’s talk to our children. There is nothing like protest in Lagos. The Lagos government is treating us well. The government at the center, led by my father, Mr. Tinubu, has just assumed office. Before you judge a government’s performance, it should be given at least three years.”
Mrs. Tinubu-Ojo also reflected on the aftermath of the EndSARS protest, a significant movement led by youth against extrajudicial killings and extortion by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police Force. She expressed concern over how the protest turned violent, resulting in property damage when thugs attacked protesters and Nigerian soldiers opened fire on the demonstrators.
“Prevention is better than treatment. We will not suffer the loss of lives. Let everyone warn her children,” Mrs. Tinubu-Ojo urged.
The president’s daughter’s warning is part of a broader effort by pro-Tinubu supporters to push back against the growing mobilization for nationwide demonstrations due to economic hardships exacerbated by soaring food prices.
Since the protest was announced, President Tinubu has held meetings with leaders of religious groups, traditional rulers, governors, and security agencies. Following these meetings, religious leaders and monarchs have joined in opposing the protests, while security agencies have continued to arrest citizens supporting or organizing such activities.
