Trump Announces U.S. Airstrikes in Somalia

U nited States President. Donald Trump has announced that "many" ISIS terrorists were killed in precision airstrikes he ordered in Somalia earlier today. In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated that the strikes targeted a senior ISIS attack planner and other militants hiding in caves, effectively destroying their hideouts and eliminating the threat without harming civilians.

The operation, coordinated with Somalia's government and carried out by U.S. Africa Command, marks a significant escalation in the ongoing campaign against ISIS in the region. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that the strikes degraded ISIS's ability to "plot and conduct terrorist attacks" and sent a clear message that the U.S. will relentlessly pursue those who threaten its security and that of its allies.

While Trump did not disclose specific details about the location or identities of those targeted, he emphasized that the operation was a decisive response to a long-standing threat. "I did! The message to ISIS and all others who would attack Americans is that 'WE WILL FIND YOU, AND WE WILL KILL YOU!'" he declared.

Somalia's President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud praised the operation, calling it a reinforcement of the strong security partnership between the two nations in combating extremist threats. The Somali government reiterated its commitment to working with allies to eliminate international terrorism and ensure regional stability.

This latest strike follows a series of U.S. military actions in Somalia targeting ISIS and other militant groups. In 2023, U.S. special forces killed a senior ISIS leader and 10 militants in a raid on a mountain cave complex, while airstrikes in May 2024 eliminated three ISIS operatives.

ISIS's presence in Somalia, particularly in the Cal Miskaat mountains of Puntland, has grown in recent years, with militants receiving guidance from relocated leadership on tactics, drone evasion, and kidnapping operations. The U.S. military has warned of the increasing threat posed by these cells, prompting continued counterterrorism efforts in the region.

As the situation develops, GLiDE NEWS will provide updates on the impact of these strikes and the broader implications for regional security.
