P op star Shakira has been hospitalised in Peru due to a stomach issue, leading her to cancel her scheduled Sunday performance in Lima. The Colombian singer announced the news via social media, expressing her regret to fans.
"I’m sorry to let you all know that last night I had to go to the emergency room for an abdominal issue and I’m currently hospitalised. The doctors taking care of me have let me know that I’m not well enough to perform tonight," Shakira wrote in a post.
The singer arrived in Lima on Saturday, marking her first performance there in over a decade. Videos shared on her account showed a warm welcome from hundreds of fans at the airport.
“I hope to be better by tomorrow and that they release me from hospital as soon as possible to be able to put on the show that I’ve prepared for you all,” she added, reassuring her fans.
Known for hits like La Tortura with Alejandro Sanz and the viral 2023 diss track produced by Bizarrap, Shakira is one of the biggest Latin artists to make a significant impact in the English-speaking market, with her song Hips Don’t Lie being one of her biggest hits.
Shakira's next performance in Lima is scheduled for Monday, following the kick-off of her tour last week in Brazil.
