F rench Industry Minister Marc Ferracci has urged Europe to take a firm and united stance in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum imports. While France is not a major producer of these metals, Ferracci warned that the ripple effects could impact European markets, particularly if Chinese exports redirected from the U.S. flood the region.
"We should expect consequences from these tariffs. Europe must respond in a united manner because we know that the strategy is to divide European nations," Ferracci said. He emphasized that a divided response would only weaken the bloc’s negotiating power, adding, "We must stay united and respond firmly. Europe is more than capable of doing so."
European leaders are now weighing their options, with discussions focused on potential countermeasures that could protect local industries while sending a clear message that unilateral trade restrictions will not go unanswered. The move marks another escalation in transatlantic trade tensions, raising concerns about a broader economic standoff.
As Europe prepares its response, officials stress the importance of strategic retaliation that safeguards economic interests without escalating tensions into a full-blown trade war.
