H amas fighters are currently gathering in Palestine Square, Gaza City, in anticipation of the handover of four female Israeli soldiers, according to live visuals. The square is filled with white Hamas vehicles, surrounded by armed men in balaclavas, waving flags and displaying guns.
Members of the Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, have also arrived at the scene, signaling the intensifying activity around the planned exchange.
This event marks a key moment in the ongoing ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. Under the terms of the deal, Israel is preparing to receive the four women as part of a broader exchange that will also involve the release of approximately 200 Palestinian prisoners.
The four female soldiers, who were among seven soldiers kidnapped from the Nahal Oz military base, served as Israel Defense Forces (IDF) military lookouts, observing activity inside Gaza. The kidnappings occurred earlier this year as part of ongoing hostilities in the region.
Today’s release is part of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, which is expected to last five more weeks. This phase will also allow for increased humanitarian aid to flow into Gaza, where the blockade has left the population in dire need of food, medical supplies, and other essentials.
In total, 30 Israeli hostages are slated for release in the coming weeks, along with hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, signaling a potentially broader de-escalation as both sides adhere to the terms of the ceasefire.
Stay tuned for more live updates as the situation develops.
