E gypt has strongly condemned any suggestion of forcibly displacing Palestinians, following remarks by former US President Donald Trump advocating for the relocation of Gaza’s population to Egypt and Jordan.
In a statement, Egypt’s foreign ministry reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Palestinian people's right to remain on their land. The ministry emphasized its opposition to any actions that undermine Palestinian sovereignty, including forced displacement, settlement expansion, or land annexation.
Trump’s Controversial Proposal
Trump, reflecting on the aftermath of 15 months of conflict in Gaza, described the area as a “demolition site” and suggested that Egypt and Jordan could provide refuge for displaced Palestinians. The proposal has drawn sharp criticism from regional leaders and human rights advocates.
President Sisi Draws a “Red Line”
Egyptian President Abdelfattah al-Sisi responded decisively, calling the idea of displacing Palestinians a “red line.” He warned that such actions would compromise Egypt’s national security and destabilize the region further.
“Any forced displacement would destroy the foundation for Palestinian statehood and jeopardize decades of efforts toward a peaceful resolution,” President Sisi stated during a press briefing.
Egypt Calls for Two-State Solution
Egypt’s foreign ministry also reiterated its call for the enforcement of the two-state solution, stressing that the forced removal of Palestinians would render this framework unattainable. “A just and lasting peace can only be achieved by ensuring the Palestinian people’s right to their land and self-determination,” the statement emphasized.
A United Stance Against Displacement
Both Egypt and Jordan have consistently opposed any proposals that involve relocating Palestinians, viewing such plans as a direct threat to the prospects of a sovereign Palestinian state. The international community now watches closely as these nations stand firm against initiatives that could further destabilize an already volatile region.
With tensions running high, Egypt's stance underscores its commitment to a peaceful, equitable resolution to the Palestinian question—one that ensures the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people remain protected.
