L eaders from the United States, Egypt, and Qatar have urged Israel and Hamas to resume stalled negotiations on the Gaza conflict, emphasizing that the remaining issues involve only the specifics of a ceasefire and hostage exchange. In a joint statement released Thursday, they asserted that there is no more time for delays or excuses from any party.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed that Israel will send a negotiating team on August 15 to finalize the details of a framework agreement, with the location to be determined in either Doha, Qatar, or Cairo, Egypt.
The joint statement comes as the conflict in Gaza continues, with nearly 40,000 people killed since Israel's offensive began on October 7, following an attack by Hamas that resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people in Israel.
Critics have accused Netanyahu of dragging his feet in the peace talks, while Hamas has not yet responded to the new push for negotiations. The killing of Hamas' top political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran last week, an act attributed to Israel, has further escalated tensions, though U.S. officials believe that Hamas can still return to the negotiation table.
