Nigerian Fans Back Kelechi Iheanacho to Shine at Sevilla

N igerian football enthusiasts are optimistic about Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho's prospects in La Liga following his recent move to Sevilla, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.

Sevilla announced the signing of the 27-year-old on Wednesday night after he successfully passed a medical examination on Tuesday. Iheanacho, whose contract with Leicester City expired at the end of last season, has signed a two-year deal with the Andalusian club.

During the 2023/24 season, Iheanacho played a largely peripheral role in Leicester's campaign in the English Premier League, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 26 appearances. He now joins Sevilla with hopes of making a significant impact in Spain’s top flight.

In reaction to Iheanacho’s move, several Nigerian football fans expressed their excitement and confidence in his ability to excel in La Liga. Mr. Xperience tweeted on X, “Watch him score more goals than Ferran Torres, Lewandowski, and Lamine Yamal. The second-best attacker just arrived in La Liga after Kylian Mbappe.”

Another user, Ayodeji, added, “Senior man will light up your farmer’s league.”

Stretch commented, “Senior man Kelechi is about to light up La Liga.”

MalamBuba jokingly tweeted, “Senior Man, please don’t score against my team, Real Madrid.”

Ethan expressed his belief in Iheanacho’s talent, stating, “We all know the quality Iheanacho possesses, and it really baffles me that he struggled in the Premier League. La Liga is all about technique, and I do not doubt that he will excel there. Congratulations, Senior Man Kel.”

Temitope Usman noted, “Whoever made this move come to reality has done Kelechi a lot of good because I believe he just went to the league where he will be able to make good use of his techniques. I am confident that he will do very well in Spain.”

Iheanacho joins fellow Nigerian Chidera Ejuke at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium as Sevilla aims to rebuild following a disappointing 2023/24 season, where they finished 14th in the league.
