Iran's Supreme Leader Orders Direct Strike on Israel After Killing of Hamas Leader in Tehran

I ran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has issued a direct order for Iran to "strike Israel directly" following the overnight killing of Hamas' political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran, according to the New York Times.

The directive was reportedly given during an emergency meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council on Wednesday. The New York Times cited information from three Iranian officials familiar with the order, who requested anonymity due to their lack of authority to speak publicly. The report did not specify how or when any strike would be carried out.

Earlier, Khamenei emphasized that it was Iran’s “duty” to avenge Haniyeh’s death, stating that since he was killed inside Iran, retaliation was imperative.

“You killed our dear guest in our house and now have paved the way for your harsh punishment,” Khamenei declared in a statement, addressing Israel.

The international community is watching closely as tensions escalate between Iran and Israel following this incident. Further developments are anticipated as both nations respond to the unfolding situation.
