T he Federal Government has announced plans to sell 50kg bags of rice at a subsidized rate of N40,000 to public servants in an effort to address the ongoing food crisis in the country.
According to a letter from the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, signed by Jaiyesimi Abimbola, Director of Human Resources, interested staff members must complete a Google form on the OHCSF website and submit it to the Director of Human Resources for endorsement. The distribution and payment processes will be overseen by designated officials, with the chairman of the Joint Union Council serving as an observer to ensure transparency.
Each staff member is limited to purchasing one bag, though multiple staff members may jointly purchase a bag for sharing. The government has also established centers nationwide for the purchase of rice at the same rate.
The initiative, announced by Minister of Information and National Orientation Muhammed Idris, is part of the Tinubu administration's broader efforts to improve living conditions for Nigerians amidst the current food crisis.
