A recent victim of this alarming trend was a man who was picked up in Ikoyi on Tuesday night, July 23, 2024. The man, who was out to buy dinner, was detained by police and kept in a cell overnight. He was then taken to Bolade Oshodi mobile court. After a harrowing experience, his family had to part with 60,000 Naira to secure his release.
This incident has raised serious concerns about the conduct of the police and the arbitrary nature of these arrests. Another report from a friend mentioned a similar raid happening in Pen Cinema, Agege, indicating that this might be a widespread operation across the city.

The brother-in-law of the victim shared his experience, saying, "If we had not located him early, they were going to take them to prison. He only went out to buy dinner, and the police picked him up.
