O ba Adejuyigbe Adefunmi II of Oyotunji African Village in Beaufort County, South Carolina, was allegedly stabbed to death by his sister during a heated argument. The incident occurred on Monday, July 29, 2024, according to reports from WJCL.
Authorities with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) received a call about the stabbing around 2:45 p.m. at the village, located on Bryant Lane. The 47-year-old Oba was transported to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect, identified as 53-year-old Akiba Kasale Meredith, reportedly fled the scene on foot but was apprehended shortly thereafter. Meredith has been charged with murder and is being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
In a 2017 interview with Punch, Oba Adefunmi II mentioned that he was married to seven wives, who reside in various locations including Canada, Oyotunji, and Virginia.
