Bashir El-Rufai, son of the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has stirred up a storm with his recent tweet targeting President Bola Tinubu. This comes after a fallout between Tinubu and Bashir’s father, Nasir El-Rufai, who was a staunch supporter of Tinubu during the 2023 general election.
Nasir El-Rufai's name was notably removed from the ministerial list, a move that many believe signaled the beginning of the rift between the former governor and President Tinubu. Bashir El-Rufai took to Twitter to voice his discontent, claiming that no institution, either locally or internationally, can prevent the incumbent government from "being voted out of office."
In his tweet, Bashir wrote, "Nobody is too big to be elected out of office by the people. It will happen & wallahi nothing will happen. So forget all these intimidations flying up and down. Let us be patient. Even IMF & World Bank no go save una that time. Political strategist una. That one na for Lagos.......I didn't call names o, but due to their guilt, they already know who is being spoken about. Wallahi, none of you will force anyone to support this utter failure of governance disguised as useless, dangerous ethnocentric political strategy."
The tweet has sparked widespread reactions and debate on social media, with many interpreting it as a direct challenge to President Tinubu’s administration. Bashir's remarks underscore the growing tensions and divisions within the political landscape.
Nasir El-Rufai, who was instrumental in rallying support for Tinubu during the elections, now finds himself at odds with the administration he helped bring to power. The former governor's exclusion from the ministerial list has led to speculation about the reasons behind the apparent fallout.
The political drama continues to unfold, with many watching closely to see how this will impact the relationships and dynamics within the ruling party. As Bashir El-Rufai’s tweet gains traction, it remains to be seen how the Tinubu administration will respond to this public display of dissent from a former ally’s family.
