A senior police officer has been arrested following allegations that he raped a 17-year-old girl. The accused, Owolabi Akinlolu, a 56-year-old Superintendent of Police (SUPOL), is at the center of a case that has sparked widespread outrage and demands for justice.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the arrest and announced that a full-scale investigation is underway. Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has ordered a thorough and transparent inquiry into the allegations.
"The Lagos State Police Command has placed under arrest one of its personnel accused of defiling a 17-year-old girl," stated SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer. "The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, mni, has directed a full-scale and thorough investigation into the allegation."
To address public concerns, the Command assured that there would be no cover-up, emphasizing that such actions violate the code of conduct and professional ethics of the Nigeria Police Force. "CP Fayoade once again assures Nigerians that the officer would be dealt with in accordance with police regulations and the law if found culpable," the statement added.
