M arket women in Edo State protested today against the Iyaloja of Lagos' decision to impose a new leader on them. The demonstration, held in Benin City, highlighted the traders' demand for autonomy in selecting their leaders.
"We have always selected our leaders based on our traditions and consensus. The attempt to impose a leader from Lagos is not only disrespectful but also unacceptable," stated Madam Oseghale, a protest leader.
The market women are calling for the preservation of their traditional leadership selection processes.
