Kano High Court Bars EFCC from Arresting NNPP Presidential Candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso

Court stops EFCC from arresting Kwankwaso and others

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been prohibited by a Kano High Court at the Audu Bako Secretariat from arresting, detaining, harassing, intimidating, or summoning Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, along with seven others.

Justice Yusuf Ubale Muhammad issued the ruling on an application submitted by the NNPP, represented by Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, Dipo Olayanku, Ahmed Balewa, Chief Clement Anele, Lady Folshade Aliu, Eng. Buba Galadima, and Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. The order was granted after reviewing the motion ex parte dated and filed on June 5, 2024.

The judge stated:

"An interim order of injunction is hereby granted, restraining the respondent, either by itself, its agents, representatives, cronies, or anyone acting on its behalf, from arresting, detaining, harassing, intimidating, inviting, or in any way infringing on the fundamental rights of the applicants, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice already filed."

Additionally, the court ordered that both the interim order granted, the motion on notice, and all other related documents in this case be promptly served on the respondent before the next adjourned date.
