EFCC Launches Probe into Alleged N423 Billion Fraud Involving El-Rufai and Associates

In a significant development, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has initiated an investigation into the purported misappropriation of N423 billion, implicating former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and several other high-profile figures within his administration.

A team of seasoned investigators has been convened by the EFCC to delve into the intricate details surrounding the alleged financial irregularities. Among those slated for questioning are individuals who held key positions such as Finance commissioners during the tenure spanning from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023, as well as all accountant generals throughout El-Rufai's eight-year incumbency. Additionally, chairpersons of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) from 2018 to 2023 are also included in the list of individuals to be scrutinized.

Furthermore, former managing directors of the Kaduna Market Development and Management Company Ltd between May 29, 2015, and May 29, 2023, along with former managing directors of Kaduna Roads Agency (KADRA) from October 11, 2017, to November 2021, are subject to investigation. Notably excluded from this list is Amina Ja’afar Ladan, an engineer who held a brief one-month tenure.

The genesis of this probe stems from a petition filed by a non-governmental organization (NGO), which has prompted the EFCC to delve into the intricate web of allegations. Moreover, the agency has taken cognizance of the report submitted by the Ad-Hoc Committee of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, which has provided valuable insights into the matter at hand.

A source close to the EFCC disclosed that the investigative team has meticulously reviewed the contents of the petition and the findings of the House of Assembly's Ad-Hoc Committee. This comprehensive examination has laid a robust foundation for the forthcoming interrogations.

"We are in receipt of a petition from an NGO. So, we have started investigation in the matters raised in the petition. The report of the Ad-Hoc Committee of the Kaduna State House of Assembly is also handy. We will soon invite el-Rufai and some members of his team for interrogation. The Special Task Force on Monday (yesterday) held a long session on the contents of the petition and the report of the Ad-Hoc Committee," the source revealed to The Nation.

As the EFCC delves deeper into this high-stakes investigation, the Nigerian public awaits further developments, poised for potential revelations regarding the alleged financial misconduct that has captured national attention.
