F ormer Sokoto State Governor and serving senator, Aminu Tambuwal, has strongly criticized recent defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), attributing them to personal gains rather than public interest.
Speaking in Kaduna after the North-West Zonal PDP meeting on Saturday, Tambuwal expressed disappointment over what he described as a disturbing trend of politicians switching allegiance purely for “stomach infrastructure.”
“People leave parties for different reasons, but what I have been observing in recent times are defections not based on the interest of the people but on stomach infrastructure,” he stated.
Tambuwal, who represents Sokoto South Senatorial District, argued that no politician with a conscience should align with the APC, citing the country's worsening economic crisis under the current administration.
“With the hardship across the country, the economic doldrums this government has plunged Nigerians into, and the dismal performance of Tinubu’s administration, there is nothing attractive about the APC beyond stomach infrastructure,” he said.
PDP Vows to Unseat APC in 2027
The senator urged opposition members and concerned Nigerians to unite against the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, the North-West PDP leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to resolving internal conflicts and strengthening the party. Zonal Chairman Alhaji Bello Gwarzo, speaking on behalf of the party, declared that the PDP was focused on reclaiming power.
“We are determined to take back power. The APC has failed Nigerians, and it is time to put an end to their misrule.”
As Nigeria grapples with economic hardship and political realignments, all eyes remain on the evolving battle for power ahead of 2027.
