M ichael Ayuba Auta, the Labour Party (LP) senatorial candidate for Southern Kaduna in the 2023 general elections, has officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Auta, who played a pivotal role in the Labour Party’s performance during the last elections, has vowed to mobilize one million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani in the 2027 elections.
The defection ceremony took place in Auta’s Fai Ward, Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State. During the event, Auta explained that his decision to join the APC was influenced by the current political climate and the overwhelming demand from his supporters.
He commended President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani for their commitment to peace and inclusivity in Kaduna State. Auta specifically highlighted the recent appointment of General Christopher Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff as a testament to the full integration of Southern Kaduna into the national governance framework.
“This administration has given us a sense of belonging. Today, our people can engage in farming and business activities without fear. Unlike the previous government, President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani have ensured that no one is left behind,” Auta stated.
Reflecting on his political influence, Auta recalled his ability to secure 294,000 votes for Peter Obi in the 2023 elections without any government support.
“If I could achieve such a feat as an opposition candidate, imagine what we can accomplish in 2027. I assure you of one million votes for President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani. The APC no longer faces any challenges in Southern Kaduna,” he declared.
Auta’s defection was met with enthusiasm by APC members. Hon. Dare Isuwa, the Fai Ward Chairman, described the development as a significant milestone for the party.
“This is the happiest day of my life,” Isuwa said. “Auta has previously worked tirelessly for this party, and his return will only strengthen us. We are issuing his membership card today, and I am confident that he will succeed in any position he contests under the APC.”
Hon. Elisha Yahaya, a business associate of Auta, criticized the Labour Party for allegedly betraying Auta despite his contributions.
“Michael built the Labour Party’s presence in Kaduna, Kano, Niger, and Jigawa within just six months. Yet, those he trusted turned against him. This betrayal affected his business, but we, his partners, have always recognized his value,” Yahaya remarked.
With Auta’s defection, the political landscape in Southern Kaduna is expected to undergo a significant transformation, as the APC consolidates its influence in the region ahead of the 2027 elections.
