Commercial Space Industry Urged to Standardize Career Paths Amid Rapid Growth

A s the space industry experiences unprecedented expansion, experts warn that a lack of clear career pathways is making it difficult to attract and retain talent. Speaking at the SpaceCom conference, industry leaders emphasized the need for standardized certifications and structured training to help professionals transition into aerospace roles.

Joseph Horvath, CEO of Nova Space, compared the situation to the IT sector, where widely recognized certifications help workers navigate career growth. With the space economy projected to reach $4 trillion by 2040, demand for specialized workers is soaring. However, STEM degrees alone are no longer sufficient, as emerging fields like artificial intelligence increasingly compete for top talent.

To remain competitive, the space industry must establish clear career progression frameworks, introduce micro-credentialing programs, and offer competitive salaries to attract skilled professionals. Standardizing training and development will be critical in sustaining the industry’s rapid growth.
