Nigerians Rally to Raise N1.8m for Protester’s Son Aspiring to be a Programmer

I n a heartwarming display of solidarity, Nigerians have raised N1.8 million for Ogwu Chijioke, a protester whose 13-year-old son dreams of becoming a programmer. Chijioke was among the hundreds who took to the streets in Lagos State on Thursday to participate in the nationwide #EndBadGovernance demonstrations, protesting against the harsh economic conditions in the country.

During an interview with Channels Television at the Lekki Toll Gate area, Chijioke shared his struggles in trying to support his son's ambitions. "I’m riding from Mile 2, Festac. My son at 13 is a programmer but I can’t even buy data for him to learn more. I can’t even pay for the tuition fees, millions of naira. At 13, he can programme games," he said, clutching his bicycle.

Chijioke's dedication to his son's future struck a chord with many viewers. "My name is Ogwu Benjamin Chijioke. I would rather die on the streets than die at home. I can’t sit down and watch the future of my son go to waste. I know I may not have a future again in Nigeria but my son’s future will not be wasted," he declared passionately.

The interview quickly went viral, prompting a wave of support from Nigerians both at home and abroad. Within a short time, N1.8 million was raised to help Chijioke provide the necessary resources for his son's education and programming aspirations.

This act of generosity and community spirit has highlighted the power of collective action and the importance of supporting one another in times of need. As the #EndBadGovernance protests continue, stories like Chijioke's serve as a reminder of the personal struggles faced by many Nigerians and the potential for positive change through unity and support.
