G oogle has announced the Pixel Watch 3, its third-generation smartwatch, featuring a groundbreaking health feature: Loss of Pulse Detection. This new technology is designed to detect anomalies in blood flow and alert users and emergency services if a pulse loss is detected. Initially launching in Europe, Google is working to bring this feature to the US soon.
The Pixel Watch 3, which is available for preorder starting at $349, introduces several enhancements:
- Advanced Health Monitoring: The Loss of Pulse Detection feature aims to improve emergency response times by notifying users and calling for help if necessary.
- Improved Battery Life: The new model offers up to 24 hours of battery life, with an extended Battery Saver mode reaching 36 hours. It also features a larger battery in the 45-mm model.
- Multi-Device Interactions: The Pixel Watch 3 supports new interactions with Google Home and Google TV, adding functionality beyond fitness tracking.
Despite these advancements, the Pixel Watch 3 continues to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon Wear W5 Gen 1 chipset rather than Google's custom silicon. Additionally, the watch's repairability remains limited, with Google offering replacements rather than repairs.
The watch is set to go on sale September 10, with its introduction marking Google's significant step forward in the wearable tech space.
