A 58-year-old mother, Eucharia Okpalannadi, has called on authorities to ensure justice for her three-year-old daughter, who was reportedly defiled by her father, Magnus Okpalannadi. Eucharia, a native of Amesi in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, alleged that her husband has also threatened her life for exposing the abuse.
Eucharia, who married Magnus 26 years ago, narrated her ordeal before the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, in Awka. She explained that they have five children, including the defiled daughter and her twin brother.
Eucharia initially dismissed her daughter's complaints of sexual abuse as a joke until she noticed irregularities in the child's private parts. Upon further observation, she confronted her husband, who denied the accusations. Unsatisfied, she took the child to a hospital in Onitsha, where a doctor confirmed the defilement.
Outraged and seeking justice, Eucharia decided to go public with the matter, hoping for intervention from the government and private individuals. She expressed fears for her safety and her daughter's, describing her husband as capable of doing anything to silence them.
Eucharia called for her husband's arrest and prosecution to prevent further harm. She also cautioned against individuals exploiting the situation for financial gain, noting that the Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, was already providing care for her and her children.
Commissioner Obinabo acknowledged the seriousness of the case, emphasizing the need for accurate information to aid security investigations. She assured the public that the Anambra State Government is committed to apprehending the suspect and delivering justice.
The incident has been described as both terrible and unfortunate, with ongoing efforts to locate and apprehend the fleeing father.
