Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's daughter Shiloh, 18, chose to drop her dad's last name following 'painful events'

S hiloh Jolie-Pitt, the daughter of former celebrity couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has recently addressed her decision to drop her father's last name. The 18-year-old filed for the name change on her birthday, May 27, and the legal notice was publicly announced in the Los Angeles Times.

In a statement issued through Shiloh's lawyer, Peter Levine, it was clarified that the decision was a personal and significant one, made following “painful events.” Levine emphasized that the name change announcement was simply a legal formality required by California law.

“Shiloh Jolie did not take out an 'ad' announcing any name change, and any press reporting that is inaccurate,” Levine stated, as reported by People. “As Shiloh's attorney, I am required to publish a legal notice because the law in California requires it of anyone who wants to change their name. That legal notice was published in the Los Angeles Times, as is required.”

In addition to Shiloh, her siblings Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, and fraternal twins Vivienne and Knox, 16, were also affected by the split. Zahara and Vivienne have also dropped “Pitt” from their surnames, though it remains unclear if Vivienne has completed the legal process.

Recent reports suggest that Brad Pitt has “virtually no contact” with his older children. An insider revealed to People that Pitt's relationship with his adult children remains strained and his engagement with the younger kids has been limited recently due to his filming schedule.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who were married for five years, have been in a prolonged legal battle since their separation in 2019. The dispute has included a contentious conflict over their French vineyard and home, following Jolie’s sale of her $64 million stake to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler in 2021.
